5 Live Launches Its Young Commentator of the Year Competition
BBC Radio 5 live has launched its Young Commentator of the Year competition.
The station is looking for boys and girls aged 11 to 15 to demonstrate their skills by visiting bbc.co.uk/youngcommentator, selecting a sports video clip and recording themselves in action. A panel of experts will shortlist the entrants, and the final 20 will face a judging panel made up of 5 live sporting commentators and pundits including John Murray, Conor McNamara, Jacqui Oatley, Gigi Salmon, Darren Campbell and Sonja McLaughlan.
The winner of 5 live’s Young Commentator of the Year gets the chance to spend a day with 5 live at a sporting event where they’ll have a go at commentating. They’ll also get a behind-the-scenes tour of 5 live and BBC Sport at MediaCityUK in Salford along with receiving a Young Commentator of the Year trophy.
“Save Our BBC is pleased to see the BBC actively encouraging and seeking to find the next generation of talent. Good commentators make all the difference to our experience of sport.”
