BBC launches The Biggest Weekend
In a year where there is no Glastonbury, the BBC will bring the biggest artists in the world to all parts of the UK with live shows in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland across the late May bank holiday weekend (25-28 May).
The Biggest Weekend involves all of the BBC’s music stations coming together over one long weekend in 2018, to celebrate the range and diversity of music supported by the BBC, and enjoyed by audiences across the UK.
The coverage from the BBC will be similar to that offered around Glastonbury. There will be something for everybody with concerts being hosted by Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, and 6 Music, and extensive TV coverage across BBC Two and BBC Four. Radio 1 events will include 1Xtra and Asian Network performances and broadcasts. All sets will be available on BBC iPlayer, mobile and online, allowing audiences to enjoy all of their favourites as well as explore new music.
Radio 1, Radio 2, 6 Music and Radio 3 will work with BBC Nations TV and Radio, as well as local radio stations, forging partnerships to put on a comprehensive range of outreach activity in the lead up to the festival including educational workshops, Radio 1’s Academy and BBC Introducing gigs showcasing local talent in each host location.
