Celebrations For The Legendary Iggy Pop’s 70th Birthday
Shaun kicks off 6 Music’s celebrations for the legendary Iggy Pop’s 70th birthday which is today.
For one day only, Shaun is suspending his ban on birthday wishes as he encourages the 6 Music audience to pass on their best regards to the rock legend, who hosts his own show on 6 Music every Friday night. Shaun will also deliver a special message to the great man from his friend, Brian Eno.
Today’s Album of the Day is Iggy Pop: Post Pop Depression – Live at the Royal Albert Hall, which will be played across the 6 Music shows today. This special vinyl issue of the album is released for Record Store Day. The album is a live version of Post Pop Depression. The 2016 record was produced by Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and features contributions from Queens of the Stone Age’s Dean Fertita and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders.
Iggy – the ‘Godfather of punk’ – is considered by many to be one of the pioneers of punk rock music, and his musical legacy has inspired and energised rock ‘n’ roll’s alternative spirit since the late 1960s, both in The Stooges and as a solo artist. His charismatic and full-on stage presence marks him as a truly iconic frontman.
