BBC Radio 3 focusses on International Women’s Day today starting with a special Breakfast programme, a lunchtime concert from the Albany Trio (1.00pm) and a special Afternoon on 3 where Katie Derham presents a concert of contemporary Welsh female composers from the BBC NOW.

In Tune takes ‘Inspiring Women’ as a theme for its special broadcast live from London’s Southbank Centre (4.30pm), Radio 3 in Concert comes live from the BBC’s Maida Vale studios with music by contemporary women composers (7.30pm) and Free Thinking looks at the ways in which every day experiences in the lives of women feed into creativity (10.00pm). Ahead of the day itself, Sound of Cinema presented music from films made by female directors, Music Matters investigated the gender gap in professional orchestras, both in the UK and internationally (BBC Radio 3) and last Sunday, entrepreneur Martha Lane Fox joined Michael Berkeley on Private Passions.
